Thermal Performance Support for Architects

Thermal bridge calculations, PHPP modelling and practical building-fabric advice for architects and designers.

Human Habitat provides specialist thermal-performance support from early design through to detailed construction.

Led by Certified Passivhaus Consultant and Tradesperson Ross Evans, our approach combines building-physics modelling with practical experience of insulation, airtightness, retrofit and construction.

Thermal Bridge Calculations

2D thermal bridge modelling and ψ-value calculations for construction junctions.

We can assess individual details or a series of junctions, helping you quantify heat loss, identify weak points and refine details before construction.

Typical applications include:

  • wall-to-floor and wall-to-roof junctions
  • window and door installation details
  • eaves, parapets and intermediate floors
  • unusual or bespoke construction details
  • comparison of alternative junction designs

Calculations use an ISO 10211-compliant modelling process.

PHPP Modelling & Passivhaus Support

PHPP modelling for new-build and retrofit projects, whether pursuing Passivhaus certification or simply using Passivhaus methodology to understand and improve performance.

Support can include:

  • PHPP energy modelling
  • fabric and insulation strategy
  • airtightness and ventilation considerations
  • thermal bridge assessment
  • investigation of design alternatives
  • guidance through the Passivhaus design process

Projects do not need to be pursuing certification to benefit from PHPP modelling.

Building Fabric & Detail Review

Sometimes you don’t need another report — you need someone to look carefully at the building.

We can review drawings and construction details to identify opportunities to improve:

  • insulation continuity
  • airtightness
  • thermal bridging
  • junction design
  • buildability
  • overall thermal performance

Our advice is informed by hands-on experience of construction and retrofit as well as building-physics modelling, helping bridge the gap between calculated performance and what can actually be built.

Work With Human Habitat

We work collaboratively with architects, designers and other consultants, either on individual calculations or as ongoing thermal-performance support across a project.
